Theme Description

The Lord of the Rings, a novel series by J.R.R. Tolkien, is the tale of the War of the Ring: a war in which the Dark Lord Sauron made a bid for the One Ring of Power. The setting is on the world of Middle-Earth, and holds a number of fantasy standards: magic, elves, dwarves, and orcs can all be found here. In addition, many of the protagonists are members of the race known as Hobbits: short, human-like creatures that live peaceful lives. The tone is generally fairly serious, given the severity of the War being fought.
