Characters
GateMUSH will accept characters in their pure canon forms, "AU" versions of canon characters, and original characters. However, a few restrictions are necessary to preserve the theme of the MUSH, and keep out inappropriate concepts.
- Characters whose IC power is above and beyond the scope of most of the rest of the MUSH will not be accepted. See 'News Game-Breakers' for more information.
- OCs will be given extra scrutiny. Their basic concepts should be coherent, interesting, and easy to explain. Loading up an OC with a lot of inexplicable powers is a no-no, as is making an OC with no believable faults or weaknesses.
- By that same token, AU charcters will be subject to scrutiny. Please make sure that the additions, deletions, and other changes to the character make sense. Don't just graft a bunch of powers onto a character with no explanation; it might seem interesting to you, but to us, it says that you're more interested in roleplaying the powers than the character.
- Characters from material with strong sexual content will not be considered. Please consider the rating, as well as the theme. The following authors and corporations have made clear that they do not wish fans to produce unauthorized fiction incorporating their characters or settings. We intend to respect their wishes, so applications for characters in the respective themes of the following will not be considered.
- Anne Rice
- Disney
- Anne McCaffrey
- Anita Blake
- Mercedes Lackey
- Robin Hobb
- Characters may not be imported from other MU*s or RPG campaigns. Concepts may be adapted to divorce them from the original setting in order to become viable here, but they will not be permitted to retain the history of their past actions and interactions in said original setting. Gate is a contained environment--if it didn't happen here, it didn't happen to the character.
- Characters who are, or are directly based off, actual persons, living or dead, will not be considered. Exceptions may be made for characters who are clearly not intended to truly represent the referenced individual. For instance, John Quincy Adams, flung forward into the future and using absorbed cosmic energy to fight threats to liberty as the Statefman, would be acceptable. As a general rule, the more outlandish and farther removed the character is from the actual individual, the more likely it is to be accepted. The staff reserves the right to reject even outlandish and obviously parodical characters based on controversial or highly revered individuals, such as religious figures.
- Groups or pairs of characters can be applied for with a single application, provided they are firmly established as groups or pairs in their source's canon. Some characters, by their nature, are strongly dependent on certain other characters. If a player wishes to apply for a character from one of these relationships, and the other is already present on the MUSH, permission from that character is required.
- If a player wishes to apply for an AU version of a character who is already present on the IC grid, permission from that character is acquired.
- Characters from inherently multidimensional themes, such as Sliders or Stargate, will be processed on a case-by-case basis. Their native themes may need to be adapted to fit into the MUSH's theme.
- Characters should be applied for using the character's full names. Characters with Japanese names should use English name order--given name first, family name last.
