Character Application

Welcome to the GateMUSH application process. To apply, just answer the questions as completely as you can, and copy it into the body of a plaintext e-mail. Please don't send it as an attachment, because those can contain a variety of nasty things. Please include line breaks between paragraphs, and leave all questions after #3 intact, as well.

1. List your real name, your real age, and your e-mail address.

2. List your most recent and/or notable alts, and the games you've most recently played at.

3. Fill out your character's +finger information:

Name: Self-explanatory.

Gender: Also self-explanatory.

Source: The source material your character appeared in. If the character is an original character based off existing material, put <Source> (OC). If the character is completely original, put "Original Character". If the character is from an AU version of a canon setting, put <Source> (AU).

Faction: The faction your character belongs to. If your character doesn't work for either, put "Unaffiliated".

Group: For most characters, this will be "None". However, if you gain the permission of an IC group's leader, you can apply directly into a group; if this is the case, put that group's name. Make sure the leader also @mails the Cosimir about it, too.

Function: What your character does. This could be serious or silly.

Quote: Something your character has said, or would say. It can be canon, or entirely made up.

Profile: A paragraph or so about the character. It should include tidbits of history, personality, and notable talents, combat or otherwise. Don't turn this into a weapons loadout--we're more interested in seeing thumbnail sketches of characters.

Skills: A list of skills your character has. These aren't necessarily limited to serious ones--humorous ones describing character attributes can also be included. They should be capitalized like the title of a book.

4. What is your character's history? Please don't write out every last detail. Some MUSHes make History one of the cornerstones of the application. We don't. If you're not applying for an OC, then just give us a very brief summary of all the salient points we need to know - one paragraph is usually enough for characters who aren't horribly, startlingly complicated. If you're applying for an OC, please still keep it concise; we expect the meat of the application, so to speak, to be in Personality.

5. Now for personality. What does your character think of life, and the important things in it? Other people? How would you describe his or her morals, ethics, or lack thereof? What's your character's general temperament? How well do they get along with other people? What are their major goals, dreams, fears, and hopes? Who are the people they're tied to, and what are those ties? You don't have to answer all of these questions like a test essay--we want to see what makes your character tick.

6. And now, for theme elements. What does your character think of the multiverse at large? How do they see the Gates, other planes, and the inhabitants of said planes? What does your character think of the two major factions on the MUSH? Please justify why your character is in the employ of a particular faction, or Unaffiliated.

7. Lastly, tell us about your character's capabilities. This includes a brief summary of your character's prowess in combat, but it should also include unusual or supernatural powers, special equipment the character uses, noteworthy assets your character has control over or access to, and other such things which may not be related to battle. Be concise; we just need the gist of what's important, not every single detail.

8. If your character is from a published theme that isn't listed in the +themelist database, write a /short/ summary of it here. This should be coherent and concise--a paragraph at the most.

Be sure to check your spelling and grammar, too! We reserve the right to turn down applications on the basis of poor spelling and grammar, block-of-text syndrome, and bizarre formatting. When your application's all done, send it off to gatemush@gmail.com. Best of luck!
